Abstract:

The 2016 Law on Belief and Religion (which went into effect on 01 January 2018) marks an important development in ensuring the freedom of belief and religion. For its implementation, the government has issued resolutions detailing some articles and the application of the Law on Belief and Religion; in addition, other related specialised laws have also been improved, contributing to the positive results in the implementation of laws on belief and religion. However, law on belief and religion is a specialised area in which special attention is needed to balance ensuring the freedom of belief and religion and the administrative role of the government. After 8 years of implementation, the 2016 Law on Belief and Religion has shown a number of limitations that need to be addressed. By analysing the current regulations in this area, with a special emphasis on the 2016 Law on Belief and Religion, the article proposes some solutions for improving the legal framework on belief and religion to align with the new development requirements of the current era.
