Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) for conformity assessment within ASEAN are recognised as a significant legal mechanism for eradicating non-tariff barriers and promoting intra-regional trade, especially in sectors prioritised for ASEAN integration. Establishing MRAs for conformity assessment diminishes transaction expenses, broadens market access prospects, and improves consumer protection. This paper illustrates that the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (ASEAN MRA EE) has created a comprehensive legal framework regarding its applicability, technical standards for conformity assessment bodies, and mutual recognition mechanisms, based on an analysis of its legal content and a comparative study of its implementation across ASEAN member states. The efficacy of ASEAN MRA EE implementation varies across member states due to differences in national legislative frameworks, technical capabilities, and financial resources. Consequently, the article suggests multiple avenues to improve the efficacy and consistency of ASEAN MRA EE implementation among ASEAN member states in the future.
